Linda C. Washington

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, the Angel’s trumpet sounded calling Mrs. Linda Carol Holmes Washington, 70, home to be with the Lord. Having fought valiantly, she departed this life in Atlanta, Georgia, surrounded by those she loved and those who loved her.

Linda, affectionately called “Baby Sister”, was born on September 22, 1950 to the late James F. “Brother” and Ruby Mae Robinson Holmes. Nurtured in a loving Christian home, she was taught to love the Lord God with all her heart at a young age.

Linda was educated in the public schools of Greenwood County. She attended North Hodges Elementary School and she was a graduate of Brewer High School (‘68). She was a Bulldog and graduated from South Carolina State University (‘73).

She was a dedicated educator and retired from Abbeville School District 60 as a Speech Therapist after 30 years of meritorious service and commitment. She was often greeted fondly by many of her former students as she was out running errands in town.

Linda was a faithful and dutiful member of St. Paul AME Church until the Lord called her home. She faithfully served as a Trustee, a dedicated choir member, a member of the Angels of Mercy, Missionary Unit, the third vice president of the local Women’s Missionary Society, and dedicated member of the Kitchen Cutlery ministry.

She was a member of Iota Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. serving in many capacities and living up to the ideals of “Service to Mankind”. She served as a dutiful corresponding secretary of The Cokesbury Family Reunion Club (Holmes, Jackson, Moore) for many years. She was also the Treasurer for the Brewer Class of ‘68 Alumni Association.

Linda was a spirited card player and never missed a chance to jump in a good game of Bid Whist. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed going to bingo. She was caretaker for her elderly mother for many years and in the last few years she enjoyed traveling and cruising. She was a loving and special friend to her neighbors and community members who will miss her dearly.

She leaves to cherish precious and beautiful memories: her husband, Stanley Washington; a loving son, Franklin L. Holmes (Nicole) of Atlanta, GA; a sister, Emma Julia Lowe of Bellwood, IL; and a spiritual daughter, Ms. Tammy Walker of Charlotte, NC.
