Mrs. Mattie Ruth Witt Quarles 81, one of God's angel's was called from glory to reward on March 13, 2020 at Self Regional Medical Center. She was born in Greenwood county June 27, 1938 a daughter of the late Robert and Elease Frederick Witt. She attended public schools in Greenwood and graduated from Brewer High School Class of 1957. She was employed with Brewer Hospital until it closed after which she opened her own convenience store- Quarles Grocery. She was later employed with Greenwood Mills(Harris Plant) until her health declined.
She was a dedicated member of Mt Pisgah Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the Missionary Society and loved attending Emerald Adult Daycare Center.
She was preceded in death by four sons, Larry " Blue" Witt, Ricky Witt, Ramsey Quarles, Anthony " Big A" Quarles, 2 brothers, Leroy Witt and her twin, and one sister, Ida Mae Davis.
She leaves to cherish her memories four daughters, Beverly( Freddy) Renfroe of Jones County, GA. Gladys Christopher (Mark) of Milledgeville, GA, Laquetta (Willie James) Wideman, Jr., Cassandra Quarles( Willie James Dunlap, Jr.) Greenwood, SC; one sister, Mrs. Robbie L. (Alfred) Watson of Cokesbury, SC; three nieces raised in the home, Gwendolyn ( James) Thomas, Sharon ( Johnnie) Watson- Hampton, , Akanda (Lorenza ) Klugh; two nephews, Gary( Crystal) Davis and Akeem Thomas; seventeen grandchildren, six raised in the home, Reginald Mims, Travis Glenn Tialiana Wideman , Showntori Glenn, James D Wideman and Ta'Leigha Dunlap; 25 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; one aunt, Loree Witt of Greenwood, SC a niece raised in the home Linda Davis ; sister in laws, brother in laws and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends
Funeral services will be held Noon Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Cunningham, Sr. officiating assisted by Rev. Bernard Mormon, Pastor William Norman, Rev. Gail Norman, Rev. Joe Green and Pastor Kendrick Mack.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Quarles will be placed in the church at 11:00 am
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Flower bearers will be granddaughters and nieces.
Honorary escort will be Brewer HS Class of 1957 and Emerald Adult Daycare Center.
