Grady Andrew Williams

Retired MSG Grady Andrew Williams was born April 27, 1954 in Hodges, South Carolina to Lawrence S. and Agnes Anderson Williams, who preceded him in death. He was called home on Friday, November 22, 2019.

Grady attended North Hodges Elementary School, Brewer High School, and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1972. He joined the United States Air Force in December 1972. He received his certification as a Load Master Craftsman and Air Crew Instructor. His military service included stents with the 6950th Security Squadron at Royal Air Force, Chicksands, England, the 6993rd Security Squadron, San Antonio, TX, Dyess Air Force Base, Abilene, TX, Mildenhall, England, and Little Rock Air Force Base, Jacksonville, AR. Grady earned an Associate degree of Applied Science in Logistics Management from the Community College of the Air Force.

Grady met his wife of 41 years, Celia, in England. To this union, two sons were born, Lawrence Steven and Grady, Jr.

After 22 years of military service, Grady retired as a Master Sergeant and moved to Greenwood, SC, where he worked for Sara Lee for one year before joining the United States Postal Service. Grady also retired from the United States Postal Service. While working at the Post Office, Grady earned another Associate degree in construction from Piedmont Technical College. Grady was a member of Pine Grove AME Church where he was the Co-Chair Pro Tem of the Trustee Board and spearheaded a major project to build Pine Grove's Community Life Center.

In addition to his parents, Grady was preceded in death by his brother Harry S. (Bobbie) Williams and his brother-in-law Gideon Baptiste.

Grady is survived by his wife, Celia, two sons, Lawrence and Grady, Jr. (Emily), and five grandchildren, Jada, Riley, Moriya, Gabriel, and Graydon; four sisters, Betty J. Williams, Clara E. (Calvin) Richardson, Edna W. Brown, and Pearlene M. Williams; nieces and nephews, Dennis L. Williams, Clarissa R. (Lettisa) Hawkins, Calvin E. (Melanie) Richardson, Nicole R. Brown, Corey Williams, Muhammad W. Kareem, and Samantha "Kizzy" Baptiste; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie J. Williams, Cordelia Baptiste and Sonia Nero; a brother-in-law, Joseph Skerritt; two aunts, Lola Anderson and Corrye Nell Anderson, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services for Retired MSG Grady Williams will be held 1pm Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Pine Grove AME Church in Hodges, SC with Pastor Gregory E. Singleton officiating.

Burial with Military Rites will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Fletcher Anderson, Lettisa "C" Hawkins, Dewitt Fletcher Anderson, Jorge Jones, Harold Thompson, Zachery Anderson and James Smith

Honorary Pallbearers will be Fred Adams, Jessie Greene, Frank Starks, Greg Anderson, Robert Jennings, Stanley Starks, Donald Ellis, Carl Johnson and D. Lorenzo Williams.

The family respectfully request that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Pine Grove AME Church PO Box 176 Hodges, SC 29653 in memory of Grady Andrew Williams

Retired MSG Grady Williams will be placed in the church at Noon.

The family will receive friends Friday evening at Percival Tompkins from 6-7 pm.
