Deacon Obbie Tolbert, Jr

Deacon Obbie Tolbert, Jr. 79,  of 414 Power Street, husband of Mildred Luchie Tolbert died peacefully   at his home on Tuesday, August 6, 2019  He was  born  in Greenwood County,   a son of the late Obbie Tolbert , Sr. and Jannie Mae Jennings Tolbert.

Obbie was  a graduate of Brewer High School Class of 1957 and attended Lander College.

He served faithfully at  Morris Chapel Baptist Church until his health declined. He was  Father of the Year 1999, a Sunday School teacher for over 15 years, and Assistant Treasurer. He served on the Board of Habitat for Humanity, member of the Brotherhood and a life time member of  the NAACP. He retired after faithfully serving 33 years with the United Telephone Company, 10 years with Greenwood ( Durst Plant) and was a dedicated delivery/driver for Fooshe  Flowers.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife  Mildred , one son, Obbie Tolbert III(Linda) Greenwood; three daughters,  Cathy Tolbert of Greenwood, Wendy Hentz of Laurel MD; and Trina Powell ( Mario) of Riverside, CA ; two sisters, Grace Hawkins of Greenwood and Betty Tolbert Timmons of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren,  Lakeshia, Keyon, Barry, Jr., Whitney, Brittney, Andria, Kyle and Harrison; two step grandchildren, Keana, Latonya ; ten great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren  two great aunts, Ethel Norman  of Shadyside , MD, Laura Seigler of McCormick, SC  and Willie Jennings of  Washington, DC; and other loved ones and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM  Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr  Anthony McCullum officiating and Bishop Oliver T. McCray Pastor presiding.

Burial will  be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. 

The family will  receive friends from 12 noon until 1pm on Saturday at Morris Chapel Baptist Church

Honorary escort will be Deacons and Deaconess

Pallbearers  will be Keyon Tolbert,  Barry Hentz, Jr. , Alexander Bland, Jr. , Marcus Chamberlain, Emanuel Hill and Mark Griffin, Jr.

At the  family's request flowers be omitted and donations  made to Morris Chapel  Baptist Church Building Fund,  530 Baptist Avenue, Greenwood 29646
