Mary E. Dinkins

Mrs. Mary E. Dinkins 87, of 215 N. Bethune Street widow of Lawrence E. Dinkins, Sr. entered into eternal Saturday, October 20, 2108 at Self Regional Medical Center. She was in Greenwood County October 23, 1930. A daughter of the late Johnnie Hill and Isabell Gallman Hill. She was a graduate of Brewer High School and attended Spelman College graduating with a Bachelors' Degree in English in 1951. She was first employed as a Teacher in McCormick County .

She returned to Greenwood to teach 2nd grade at Westside , East End and Merry wood Elementary Schools. Her final tenure was at Woodfields Elementary where she retired in 1985.

She was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she served in many capacities which included Sunday School Teacher , Co- Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, member of the Quarter Century Ministry, former President of the Deaconess Ministry, former treasurer of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, Church Advisory Committee. She was honored with the title of the Mother of the Church in 2007. She was also the LRMBA Woman of Wisdom 2012.

Her community and social affiliations include American Legion Auxiliary Post 224, Gardenia Garden Club, National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Club and Den Mother of the Cub Scouts.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted son Lawrence Dinkins, Jr. of the home,; one sister, Annie Bell Williams( Billy Ray deceased), two nieces, Autumn Gail Montgomery, Angela (William) Williams ; one grand nephew, Carlos Hill (Shaquanna); 5 great nephews; one great niece and a host of other relatives and friends.

Homegoing celebration of Mrs. Mary Dinkins will be held 11:00am Friday, October 26, 2018 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Rev. John C. Aiken, Sr. officiating assisted by Rev. Rebecca Aiken presiding and Rev. Hattie J. Henderson.

Burial will be in the Evening Star Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Trustees and Gregory Hill

Honorary Escort will be Deaconess Ministry of Tabernacle Baptist Church

Mrs. Dinkins will be placed in the church at 10:00am
