Jereal Evans

Mr. Jereal E. Evans was born July 2, 1937in Greenwood County, South. He was the 5th child born to the late George L. Evans and Inells Jackson Evans. He was preceded in death by three siblings Lois Wright, Lillie Evans Sweat, and Charles Ray Evans. He departed this life on February 1, 2018 with his devoted wife by his side.

Jereal's spiritual journey started at an early age at the Cokesbury Baptist Church. Although Jereal maintained residency outside of South Carolina he continued to be an active member of Cokesbury Baptist Church until his death.

Jareal was educated in the South Carolina school system. He attended the Brewer high School. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force, where he served our country for four years. after being honorably discharged he attended South Carolina State College, where he majored in Mathematics and minored in English. After graduating and marrying his college sweetheart Kate in 1961 they moved to Philadelphia in 1962 and were blessed with two children Dexter and Myron Evans. They have traveled as a family on many road trips to places such as Florida, New York, Vegas, and California.

He began working at the united States Postal Office for four years. He was offered an opportunity to work in Washington, DC for the United States Commerce Commission he was employed as a Transportation Cost Analyst, he moved up in this position after many years he retired in November, 1992 as a Branch Chief.

He loved word puzzles and he was an avid sports fan. He loved basketball, football, baseball, and bowling. He would often join his sons and their friends on Sunday afternoons to watch football and basketball during the regular season, playoffs, and of course the NBA finals and SuperBowl. He would always use these moments to enlighten his son's and their friends with both fun, educational and intellectual conversations which were life's teachable moments for all. He would have been elated at this year's awesome Super Bowl win for his home team the Philadelphia E. A.G.L.E.S. (Fly Eagles Fly.)

Jereal leaves to mourn his wife, Kate W Evans, two sons Dexter and Myron Evans (Anita). One grandson Myjere Evans, one sister Purnell Evans Smith (Robert), two special cousins June Butler from Philadelphia and Elbert Butler from Florida. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his church family, all of whom he loved dearly.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Cokesbury Baptist Church with Rev. Amos Harling officiating.

Burial will be at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Flowerbearers will be friends of family and missionaries

Mr. Evans will be placed in church at 9:00am.

The family will receive friends Friday February 9 from 5-8 pm at the home of the late Joseph and Lillie Sweat 2922 Ridge Road Hodges SC 29653.
