William Rufus Burton ,66 of 205 Plowden Avenue, Greenwood, son of the late Willie Martin and Marguarite Frazier Burton was born on December 30, 1949 in Hodges, South Carolina Williams and entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 20, 1016 at his home, surrounded by his loves ones.
William graduated from Brewer High School in 1968 and was a member of the Brewer High School Marching Ban where he played trumpet. After graduation William moved to New York, where he lived with his aunt/godmother Leither Ligon and family. William was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church. After joining the Airforce while stationed in England he met and married Olivia.
William worked for the US Post Office while living in New York. After many years in New York William decided to move back to Greenwood. One her he joined John's Creek Baptist Church until his health failed.
Willliam had one sister who preceded him death, Barbara Jean Burton-McGrier
William leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Olivia Burton ; 3 sisters, Willie Doris Burton Abbeville, SC, Mary Deal, Greenville, SC and Jessie Moates, Greenwood, SC 2 brothers, James Albert (Dayna) Burton, Greenwood, SC, Richard Earl Burton, Abbeville, SC ; two adopted nieces, Marguarite and Jamie Moates; 6 aunts, Betty Prince, Fountain Inn, SC, Leither Ligon, Bronx, NY, Ida Frazier, Philadelphia, PA and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 2, 2016 at John's Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Mellissa Spencer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Burton will be placed in the church at 1:00 pm.
