Mrs. Lula Mae Lites

Mrs. Lula Mae Wilson Lites was born June 11, 1916 in Greenwood County to the late James Creswell and Maggie Wilson.

She was the only child to this union.

She peacefully departed this life to be the with the Lord on December 17, 2014 at the Hospice House in Greenwood, South Carolina.

She was educated in the Greenwood County School System. At an early age she began being raised by her grandparents, Will and Susan Wilson better known to her Lula as “Popa” and “Moma” and Mother Maggie.

As a little girl, she rode a horse drawn carriage to the Old Mt Moriah Baptist Church “every Sunday” with her grandparents.

At an early age she was united in Holy Matrimony to her childhood sweetheart the late David Lites, Sr. They were married for 57 years and to this union seven children were born, Frances, David Jr., James Edward, William, Lola, MaryLou and Clarence.

After the passing of her husband November 23, 1987 she felt the need to return to the South and one by one her children followed her.

After returning to South Carolina she reunited with her home Mt Moriah Baptist Church and began working faithfully in the Women’s Widows Club, the Missionary Society and former Senior Choir member. She also faithfully attended the Senior Sunday School Class and the noon day Bible Study. Her other affiliations include member of the Women’s Aid Society #87 and the Club of Wisdom.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Lola Lites, a son, James Edward Lites, a step son, Samuel D. “SD” Lites.

She leaves to mourn her passing a loving and devoted family who will miss her greatly three sons, David Lites , Jr. of Bradley, SC., William Lites of the home and Clarence Lites of Eston, PA; two daughters, Frances (Rev. Leroy) Church and Mary Lou (Ollie) Bradley of Bradley; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, and a host gg grandchildren; several nieces to include a special niece, Jessie Lites Bond of Greenwood, SC , several nephews, cousins, a special friend, Mrs. Alice Hentz and a so many friends and other relatives in Philadelphia, Germantown, Florida and Virginia Beach and New York who are too numerous to name that loved her dearly.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3pm at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with Pastor Raymond Adams officiating assisted Minister Lahona Mosley.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Phillip Walker, Steven Walker, Donal Woolfork, Bruce Wardlaw , Larry Robinson Church and Robert Gibson.

Flower bearers will be friends of the family.

Honorary Escorts will be Women’s Aid Society #87.

Mrs. Lites will be placed in the church at 2pm
