Mrs. Millie Jabber Gray
Mom’s childhood was filled with Christian values and the love of her family and friends. She joined Pleasant Rock Baptist Church and was baptized there at an early age.
Mom was raised in the Ninety Six, South Carolina community where she graduated from Ninety Six Colored School in 1950. After graduating from high school, she moved to New York and lived with her sister, Verdell Jabber Wilson.
Mom developed her personal relationship with Jesus Christ. It was at this time she joined the Philadelphia Bible Church. It was here that Mom fully accepted Christ as her personal Savior with the evidence of speaking in unknown tongues. Mom taught Sunday school during her tenure at Philadelphia Bible Church. This was the beginning of her love for GOD’s holy word.
Mom met and married Calvin O. Gray. From this union Michael, Priscilla and Mark were born. Mom was determined to rear her children with the fear of the LORD. Her motto was taken from Joshua 24:15, “but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Serve the LORD we did. Mom and her children attended the Greater Refuge Temple in Harlem, New York. It was there that she and her children grew in their love of Christ.
Mom was and avid reader of the Bible. Mom accepted her calling into the ministry during the late 1970s. Mom’s passion for interpreting the words of GOD enabled her to transition from the role of Sunday school teacher to evangelist to pastor. Mom became the pastor of the Mission Tabernacle Church in Harlem, New York.
Mom retired from the Board of Education as a paraprofessional after her health began to fail. During this season of her life, she focused on mentoring young women and men. She also focused her attention on developing her ministry.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents; James and Mamie Julia Jabber, three brothers; Pink Josh (PJ) Jabber, Clarence Cornell Jabber Sr. and Nathaniel Jabber, one sister; Mary Elizabeth Jabber Skinner and one niece; Linda Jabber Washington.
Mom leaves to cherish her memories her three children; Michael Tyrone Gray (Valarie), Priscilla Ann Gray and Mark Jabber Gray (Hazel), two sisters; Lila Verdell Jabber Wilson and Bobbie Jean Jabber Gray, one sister-in-law; Gladys Culbreath Jabber, six grandchildren; Philip, Nicole, Tanya, Erica, Markel and Taylor; four great-grandchildren; Christopher, Jonathan, Gabrielle and Elizabeth, one sister-cousin; Desiree Collins (Leon), one goddaughter; Sheila Gray-Dargan (Robert), the Jabber and Skinner children, one lifetime friend; Ruby Lee Brown, three spiritual daughters; Janice Alston, Paulette Thompson and Alda Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, and friends.
Homegoing services willbe held Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Christopher Gantt Pastor and Presiding and Rev. Lashwn Goodwin officiating.
Pallbeaers will be Nephews. Flower beaers wil be nieces.
Mrs. Gray will be placed in the church at noon at which time the family will recieve friends until the service hour.
