Leroy Tolbert (January 3, 1922 - June 28, 2014)

Leroy Tolbert of 111 S. Bethune Street husband of Liilie W. Tolbert departed his earthly life on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Self Regional Health Care. He was born in McCormick, South Carolina to the late William Tolbert and Leila Adams Tolbert on January 3, 1922. Leroy was a member of the Walker Chapel Baptist Church where he served as Superintendent of Sunday School and Deacon. Leroy, a World War II veteran, was a member of American Legion Post 224 and past Post Commander. He was awarded for 60 years of continuous membership in May 2013. Leroy was also a member of Dunn Creek Masonic Lodge # 302. Leroy retired from Riegel Textile where he was employed for 38 years and worked for the Piedmont Agency on Aging another ten years before fully retiring. Leroy was married to the late Eunice Lewis Tolbert, to this union one child, Robert Leroy Tolbert was born. Robert preceded Leroy in death. After Eunice’s death he married Lillie T. Walker Tolbert on April 21, 1962 and to this union five children were born. A daughter Teresa Tolbert preceded Leroy in death. He leaves to cherish his legacy his loving wife of 52 years, Lillie Tolbert, of the home; Children: Cyrus Tolbert (Latricia) Lithonia, Georgia; Crystal Lasseur (Paul) Miami, Florida; Andre Tolbert (Gina) Chesapeake, Virginia; William Benjamin Tolbert (Nythea) Powder Springs, Georgia; two sisters Mae Ella Davis, Hodges, South Carolina; Thelma Ollison, Glen Oaks, N.Y.; one brother in law Morris Carroll, Moreland, Georgia; two sisters-in-law Doretha Thompson, Columbia, South Carolina and Eula Carroll, Moreland, Georgia; eight grandchildren; nieces; nephews, other relatives and friends Funeral services will be held 1 PM Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Morris Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Oliver officiating. Mr. Tolbert will be placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Evening Star Cemetery Pallbearers will be American Legion Post #224 In Lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund 220 Beadle Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 Honorary escorts will be Dunn Creek Masonic Lodge #302 and The United States Army. A special thank you to Leroy's caregivers Agnes Dunbar, Geneva Scurry, Shirley Lewis and Donnell Williams The family is at the residence 111 South Bethune Street, Greenwood.
